Following the death of Stalin in 1953 some of the East European countries felt that Khrushchev was not going to be such a ruthless leader.

This lesson looks at the reasons behind the uprising in 
Hungary in 1956, the response from the USSR and the consequences for other communist countries of Eastern Europe.
